Muthirai in Tamil synonymously refers to identity, legal seal, registration, stamping, etc.

The R in muthirai refers to a ring that is inside a circle which refers to Signet rings. Signet rings were used by many civilizations in ancient times to authenticate documents or identify the position of power of a political person. It was also used as a family crest passed down from one generation to the next. This was the inspiration to design a logo that glorifies signet rings. The importance of identity and protection of identity is the main reason to choose a signet ring in the logo of muthirai. Our logo is made to emphasize the traditional methods of authentification.

What is a Signet ring?

In ancient times signet rings were used for identification. It is one of the most credible ways of identification. Used in different types of works when pressed into the sealing wax. They were used throughout history and were highly functional. Ancient people wore signet rings made of different colors of metals such as gems, sapphire, and hardstones. It offered identity and insight into the person. Religious symbols, family crests, and monograms are some examples.

Even today most people use signet rings as a way of revealing their style or as a symbol of what they are drawn into. Importance of Signet ring in ancient times. Signet rings were mentioned in the epic Ramayana in Chapter 44 - Rama gives his Ring to Hanuman to identify Rama’s messenger to Sita.

In the ancient world, it was a normal practice for the most influential people in the world to wear signet rings. They used the rings to confirm any documents for their authenticity. 
Those rings were designed keeping their purpose in mind, that they were hard to copy and practical to use.

Each ring was unique in design. It usually has markings of the family crest yet they also added a significant mark that identified the ring holder personally. Some rings were icons others were monogramming that were associated with influential people and important families. Signet rings were reverse-engineered for the design to properly be stamped on a document. The unique details on the ring also made it difficult to copy and expensive to recreate.

These signet rings show records long back as 3500 BC. Mesopotamian people used cylindrical seals for authenticating. This might be the origin of the corporate seals we see today.

Ancient Egyptians used these seals attached to their rings. Important people like Pharaohs wore it to identify their position.

Precious and semi-precious stones were used in the signet rings in the nineteenth- century. Some rings had the engraved stone set on a rotating bezel. This allows the ring to be worn facing into it and when using it will be facing out. These types of rings were mostly made of silver or gold.

Today the brand and logo which are protected under the trademark were mere practices from ancient times.
