These are the categories required for a startup to be eligible and get recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to avail of the benefits

Company Age
Period of existence and operations should not be exceeding 10 years from the Date of Incorporation.

Company Type
Incorporated as a Private Limited Company, a Registered Partnership Firm, or a Limited Liability Partnership.

Annual Turnover
Should have an annual turnover not exceeding Rs.100 crore for any of the financial years since its Incorporation.

Original Entity
An entity should not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an already existing business.

Innovative & Scalable
Should work towards development or improvement of a product, process, or service and/or have a scalable business model with high potential for the creation of wealth & employment.

Benefits of Startup in Trademark
If you are a private limited or Limited Liability partnership the government fee for a trademark is 9000, but if you have a start-up registration certificate (DPIIT certificate) it comes down to 4500 due to the subsidiary government offers. One-person company is not eligible for this certification.

Other Benefits

Self Certification
Startups can now self-certify with the startup mobile app with 9 Labour laws and 3 Environment Laws.
There won't be any inspection in case of labour law for a period of 3 to 5 years. But an inspection may be conducted if a complaint of violation is filed.
The complaint is taken if it is filed in writing and is approved by a senior to the inspecting officer.

Tax Exemption
Tax exemption for the initial three years for Startups that are registered under the start-up India scheme. Revenues can be utilized only for business development purposes at the given term of tax exemption.

One-stop Process
Startups can be registered through a single form through the start-up India mobile app. The app helps startups with one-stop clearances for approvals, registrations, filing compliances, etc.  

Patent Registration
Company register under startup can now file a fast-track patent application. A refund of 80% of the total value of the patent fee is granted once the patent is filed.

Equal Opportunity
Back in the day, a company with prior experience or a requisite turnover can only go for public procurement.
But now Startup India has relaxed norms for public procurement so that both startups and experienced entrepreneurs have equal opportunities.

Incubator Setup
The startup India incubator module endorses the public-private partnership.
The module gives the startup the requisite knowledge and support.
There are 118 incubators powering the startup ecosystem, across India.

Networking
The Startup scheme gives opportunities to meet other startup stakeholders,
These fests are conducted twice annually at both national and international levels.
This gives an opportunity for startups to seek funding to grow and develop.

Government Tenders
Government Projects have higher monetary incentives but obtaining them is difficult.
Startups registered under the startup India scheme are given incentives to receive government tenders. No experience is required to be eligible to get tenders.
